The brow ridge — the bony prominence above the eye socket — is one of the most visually significant structural features of the face. In physiognomy, the brow ridge is associated with intellectual intensity, the relationship between rational thought and the raw world, and the degree of forward projection of personality.
A prominent, heavy brow ridge has been associated in physiognomy with strong willpower, intense focus, and a direct, assertive orientation toward the world. The Wolf, Bear, and Choleric types often show pronounced brow ridges. This feature suggests someone who engages directly and fully with whatever they confront — there is little shrinking or softening.
A lighter, less pronounced brow ridge suggests a more refined, sensitive, or intellectual orientation. The features are less physically assertive, and the person may engage with the world more through thought, feeling, and perception than through direct physical assertion.
